Peter Cottontail Plants | Pollinator-Friendly Perennial

Spring 2027 preorder. Local delivery plants will be potted.

Achillea ptarmica ‘Peter Cottontail’ is a compact, white-flowering yarrow relative with masses of small, rounded blooms that resemble little white pom-poms.

It brings a completely different look to the pollinator garden than lavender, catmint, allium, or oregano. The flowers are bright, soft, and airy, and they work especially well in cottage-style gardens, mixed perennial beds, and cut-flower arrangements.

Our plants were purchased as licensed ‘Peter Cottontail’ stock from Walters Gardens and will be sold under their correct cultivar name.

Why We Grow It

  • Masses of small white button-like flowers
  • Excellent contrast with purple and blue flowers
  • Attractive to pollinators
  • Compact, mounding perennial
  • Long summer bloom period
  • Useful in cottage gardens and mixed perennial beds
  • Excellent cut flower
  • Works beautifully with lavender, catmint, allium, oregano, and black-eyed Susans
    Hardy enough for northern gardens
  • Named cultivar from licensed nursery stock

A Different Kind of Yarrow

‘Peter Cottontail’ does not have the broad, flat flower clusters most people associate with traditional yarrow.

Instead, it produces many rounded white flowers on branching stems, giving the plant a softer, more informal appearance.

That makes it especially useful when you want a white flowering perennial that adds texture without looking heavy.

For Cut Flowers

The small white flowers are especially useful in informal bouquets.

They work well as filler with:

  • Roses
  • Lavender
  • Black-eyed Susans
  • Purple allium
  • Catmint
  • Other cottage-garden flowers

The rounded flower shape adds texture without overpowering larger blooms.

In the Pollinator Garden

We like ‘Peter Cottontail’ because it adds another flower shape and color to the garden.

A diverse pollinator planting is more interesting when it includes different heights, flower forms, and bloom periods rather than several plants that all look and behave the same.

The white blooms also create a strong contrast against the purple flowers that dominate much of our lavender and pollinator collection.
